Research has indicated that parents and educators express a need for effective tools to engage their children and students in conversations about fundamental topics related to growing up. In response to this demand, the TALK Puberty app was developed to facilitate such discussions.

To initiate a conversation, simply select one of the five sections and swipe through the provided questions about puberty and adolescence that are commonly asked by children. For your convenience and to enhance your comfort level, it is recommended to verbally express one question at a time. This unique approach serves as a "cue to action," where the mere act of asking a question encourages meaningful dialogue.

The app offers over 150 questions organized into five sections: Basic Questions About Puberty, Questions About Most Girls, Questions About Most Boys, Other Questions Children Often Ask*, and Open-Ended Questions. In the first four sections, concise answers are provided on subsequent slides following each question. Should you require further information, we encourage consulting reliable resources, including your local medical professional. Additionally, the app provides references to other relevant resources.

The TALK Puberty app is recommended for children aged 7 to 15; however, individuals of all ages are welcome to utilize these questions for engaging in interactive conversations about real-life experiences. By initiating open lines of communication now, you are fostering a safer and healthier environment for your children and students to seek guidance on more complex topics as they grow older. It is important to remember that TALK is not only a noun but also a verb — engaging in dialogue helps establish stronger connections and build trust.

Important notes to consider:

  • The terms "girls" and "boys" are used within this app because younger children often have a preference for concrete learning.
  • While the anatomical references in the app use the terms "girls" and "boys," it is crucial to acknowledge that gender identity is not strictly limited to these categories. For example, a person may have a vulva without identifying as a girl or have a penis without identifying as a boy.
  • The section titled "Other Questions Children Often Ask" includes inquiries about consent, personal identity, sexual health, and safety.
  • The TALK Puberty app requires purchase for download. This decision was made to prioritize your privacy and ensure uninterrupted use of the app, including conversations with family members, friends, and students, without any disruptive advertisements.

For additional assistance in discussing puberty and adolescence, we recommend listening to the Puberty Prof Podcast available on popular podcast platforms.
